Very dark color. The nose is extremely primary, with dark fruits and game. This is a dark and brooding wine, all power and structure on the palate with a very long finish. This needs time in the glass or decanter to reveal itself.

Served blind at a Richebourg dinner. In colour it looked very young still and there was no distinction visually to the Thibault Liger Belair 11 served alongside. It was however on the palate immediately a wonderfully mature wine and I pegged it at 20 years older than the 2011 roughly. The nose had a bit of musty notes, damp earth. The palate was rather regal with a lushness but also great acidity and strain of blood orange giving it plenty of energy still. A delight to drink today.

Monday Night 1990 Themed Dinner (The Principal): Still quite young and primary. Much darker color than the Rousseau CsJ. Nose was quite powerful with a bit of spice. Very prominent acidity as with a lot of 93s. I liked it but a bit disjointed tonight. Think this will get better with more age.

Having tasted this vintage only 2 years ago and being very underwhelmed by the closed nature of the wine I was very pleasantly surprised that it has started to open up with aromas of red soft fruit, vanilla and a hint of tobacco. The length is amazing and this is a very balanced wine with a lot of future.

Grand Cru Burgundy Dinner (Troquet, Boston): Should have been a contender but startled us all with a metallic, medicinal odor and taste (one called it benzene), that never went away. Had a strange dark, purple color unlike any of the other burgundies at the dinner as if it had been blended with something else. Hopefully just a strange bottle but try one if you have any to make sure that this was just an aberration.
