  • Friday late night at home with neighbourhood friends. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Apperance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of fairly integrated vanilla toast oak, mint, cedar, blackcurrant, purple plum, blueberry, dark red cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol, velvety plush high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, blueberries, purple plums, sweet dark red cherries, sweet spices and integrated toast oak. Long sweetish finish.
Good quality. I was guessng USA Cabernet ~10 years old or Bordeaux Left Bank 2010. Interestingly turns out to be 2011 supposedly poor vintage.

  • Double Decanted two hours before drinking and went back in the bottle. Ruby. Complex. On the nose, right at first. Red currant, licorice, violet and dark fruits. After a bit of air, raspberry, rose and violet. Chalk notes (but isn’t the soil here more stone?). Vanilla is smooth and deep, but not overbearing. Baking spices - clove? After more air, leather and musk emerge. Chocolate. Menthol or eucalyptus. Hay or meadow notes. Elderberry or white flower? Tannins smooth out quickly with air in the glass. A fascinating journey through aromatics. Each one emerges and then fades into the next scent. Easy and elegant. Even the tastes change as you go along! Fascinating.

  • The 2011 Léoville Poyferré is an enjoyable wine, like some 2011s reluctantly coming around but no doubt showing a classic, blackberry and blueberry personality. Fullish nose, awaiting the complexity which should emerge with a few years. The palate doesn't quite deliver on the promise of the nose, but that's '11. Very nice.

  • 30122023 - lunch/dinner at home with le wife’s friends. Thin fruit but still acceptable and ready to drink

  • Very classic and linear Bordeaux , no surprises here. Plums, cherry and cassis, it is bright, but thin, lacking in density and weight. The weak vintage shows.
