  • rebouché au château en 1991 - served undecanted 15 minutes after opening. Big, open nose that was very smoky, with sweet fruit. Showing some green grass some 30 minutes after opening, drinking very nicely, with plenty of cedar notes. Can't stay in glass too long as acidity comes out too quickly. Sediment started to get in the glass after several pours. More than an hour after opening this showed some prunes, and earthy notes about 1½ hours after opening. With a fresh pour we've got sweet fruit on the nose, but acidity was still high, and tannins starts to make itself felt. Then a little savory and smoky like soy sauce. Pretty nice.

  • More fun to smell than to taste. Black fruit, coffee aromatics. Fading, drying palate.

  • enjoyed at brandons on a sunday afternoon. this appears to be a bottle they reconditioned at the winery in 1981 according to the cork.

nose: insanely complex. squid ink, farm communities, much more

palate: very aggressive at first. med bodied. racy exciting complex intense tobacco (green tobacco was mentioned) thrilling wine. after 30-45 minutes the air attacked it and it declined. wonderful bottle.

  • Dark, bricked garnet with med-lite viscosity in the glass. Giving nose of green tobacco, antique leather, dried mushroom, tart plum, nutmeg, graphite and raspberry. Medium body with high-toned fruit on the palate. Tart, elegant plum and strawberry with secondary dusty earth, mushroom and minty green notes. Unharmonious acidity and tannin showed abrasively dry grip. Long, tight and green finish. A treat to taste this vintage.

  • This was a pristine bottle and was able to pull the cork very easily without breaking.

Fantastic nose that developed over 2 hours, at first it was a bit dusty with some leather and old cloth, but then some really nice herbal and curry notes developed turning even a bit into dried plums. In the palate quite dominant acidity, but still very pleasant to drink.

Surprise for the vintage, great bottle!
