Big fruit jam on the nose makes me crave peanut butter. On the palate, it offers ripe blackberries, raspberries, cherries, and chalk powder. It is pleasing yet a bit simple right now. Perhaps, as the fruit retreats over the years, it’ll develop more complexity. It's just too jammy for my taste to give it 90 points.
This wine is more ripe in it's fruit presentation, but doesn't come across syrupy or confectioned. It somehow rides the fence, showing off nice med intensity, fine grained tannins and refreshing med acidity to support the riper fruit, menthol, spice box, and leathery flavors. Scored 89 on first day. Drinking well now, and on the 2nd and 3rd days open, the tannins were a bit more apparent, leading me to believe that it can last another 4 years or so. Drink through 2018 or so...but I would err sooner than later, I'm thinking. pushed up to 91 pts.
