  • High altitude (915m) century-old Garnacha. Ambitious, powerful, intense wine in the "modern" (but now unfashionable!) style. Phenomenally alluring nose of crushed blackberries, truffles and liquorice - but also of cream and oven-fresh pastry. Good freshness, restraint on the oak, softening tannins. Velvety mouthfeel, surprisingly gentle for its huge 15% ABV. Good spice along with the fruit - nutmeg, dry-roasted cumin seeds. Pretty serious stuff - not for amateurs.

  • I've had this a few times now and have enjoyed it. I don't think it was showing very well this evening. Raspberry aromas, some leather and wood, maybe a touch too sweet and not enough acidity to offset it, but quite a good expression of Monastrell. The tannins are softening early in its life too, so I think this doesn't have the longevity I was hoping for. Unfortunately we also drank it a few degrees too warm. In any case, a decent "big" wine for a meaty supper on an unseasonably chilly spring night.

  • The vines of this wine are 60 years old. The wine offers some slate minerality, red as well as dark fruits, herbs and spiciness and a good balance between acidity and sweetness. A really nice wine with a good qpr.

  • Wow .. this is really a great vintage for this wine. Was very refined and smooth, everything coming together very nice .. smokey, fruity perfectly balanced. Outstanding.

  • I had this with a cheese plate on 7/16/13. It had an intense, very ripe bouquet of black cherry, licorice, cola and spice aromas. The palate was ripe, rich and dense with a touch of residual sugar and flavors of black cherry, blackberry, cola, cocoa, licorice and spice.
