Thirty Years of Phelps Insignia (1974 through 2004): Much different than the 1974. The nose is more funky and brooding with dark fruit , mushroom, mineral and funk. In the mouth this is plush and vibrant. Flavors feature rich red fruit intertwined with a strong minerality. Still tannic. Beautiful finish. An excellent wine.

Insignia Vertical Tasting 1974-2004 (WA Frost, St. Paul): Slightly funky/cheesy nose that integrated and grew more interesting with air. The palate is fantastic, showing complex, gorgeously ripe red fruit and earth. Fine-grained, ripe tannins. Fantastic.

Swamp, musk, mold, blueberry; elegant but aged and awkward, decrepit, dying; interesting but not engaging; rather long past peak
