Traditional bordeaux style with balance and complexity. The fruit has held up very well after 50 years. Color is still deep ruby with a hint of brown. Nose reminds me of black cardamom pods. Super classy palate with excellent mid palate and a long finish. Mid weight, nothing out of place, superbly well integrated. Thanks to my Dad for this piece of history and happy 50 to my wife!
Caymus 1972 and 1973 (Flemings, Walnut Creek, Ca.): The first vintage of Caymus and my only bottle from a restaurant in San Diego going under, bright beet red color in the glass, nose of black cherry, black berry, and a hint of mint, same on the palate, good acid, elegant, tastes better than the 1973 tonight, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, rich fruit, similar to the 1979 Dunn I have enjoyed, long, lingering finish and lovely aftertaste.
