Very dark deep purple in color. Nose is complex with black cherry being predominant with a talcom powder following. After a while some pencil lead or shavings shows up. Day 2 nose shows big black cherry with some vanallan maybe a little oak. Palate is just beautiful. Black cherry, pencil shaving. Lots of life for an 02. Day 2: little more open, still black cherry, some dark chocolate, silky mouthfeel.

My oldest Carlisle, and teary eyed, the last of my 2002s. The listed alcohol here of 15.9% feels a little understated, and if you get this wine to room temp, you can smell a bit of the heat. Thus, I put a little chill on it. The nose is all about florals, which is a cool note for Zin. There is also a creamy, talc note that seems to pop on the bouquet. Black cherry, black currant and a wine that sticks to my bones. Great texture and weight and for being 5 years old, shows no sign of lightening up. Great texture and full mouthfeel--it's why I buy my max order each and every time. Slamming good and this wine can go another 5 years, easy. Great stuff.

Delicious black fruit still showing through briar and earth. Hints of spice and vanilla. Easy drinking and great with food.
