After seeing a 2012, I was wondering how this 2001 compared. Well, the fruit had definitely started to decline a bit, but the wine itself was structured very nicely. The wine was a little bit of oatmeal cookie and black cherry up front. A little brambly and olive-y going to the middle. The finish was a wild ride of wild black cherry and a hint of pepper, with softened tannin. This wine seemed to appreciate the more that it was in the decanter. Glad that it was served tonight!

Showing nice notes of an aged cab - earthy, olive, meat and subtle dark fruit. More fruit on the palate than nose. Fully integrated medium+ tannins/acid. A nice showing, pop 'em if you got 'em.

Some earthiness and fruit initially on the nose. There was some funkiness in the aftertaste as well on my initial taste. Given the structure and the body in the smell, I was optimistic that some oxygen would help this wine to open up and get rid of the initial mustiness. After about an hour or so in a decanter, the flavors definitely became more expressive. We were greatly rewarded for our patience as we enjoyed a magnum of this wine over the next 4 or 5 hours. Definitely in its sweet spot, could probably go another couple years if I had any left! Paired nicely with flank steak and chimichurri.

Great bottle, holding up extremely well. A nice full body aged cab. Great color, nose, with a deep and long finish.

Held up quite nicely. Decanted for a couple of hours before serving. Black cherry and anise. Pleasant surprise for the Thanksgiving weekend.
