The Last Hurrah; 4/7/2022-4/9/2022 (Seattle, Washington): Amber-brown in color. Rich chocolate and light herbal notes on the nose. There are cola, red fruits, dried fig, dried herbs, and light chocolate notes on the palate. An impressive, layered complexity that continues to surface new and interesting tastes and aromas. So much quality here to be so old and take my palate on such a fun ride. Very long finish.

Yet again, the 48 Taylor reaches extraordinary heights. Amazingly, this is in full possession of both fruit and mellow tertiary notes; toffee, nutmeg, leather. Perfectly full, downright creamy in the mouth. Sumptuous.

The 48 Taylor illustrates that magical dichotomy of the best mature ports with vibrant, juicy fruit and a mature, mellow nuttiness with a mildly spirity character. So succulent, seeming to defy age - an archetype. A bit more complexity would have pushed this into the stratosphere.

IN fill. Only some browning, very dark, structured with tobacco and Christmas spices, tobacco, moderate sweetness only, some tannin, very long and a glorious finish with only barely noticeable alcohol.

A Celebration with José (The corner room at Ruth's Chris): No label; vintage and brand stamped wax capsule; correct cork; high shoulder fill; some seepage. Color of root beer in the glass, little depth, obtrusive spirit. This gave some pleasure with its tawny notes, otherwise a weak bottle. Not scored.
