  • What a bottle. Haunting, floral aromatics, autumnal hint. Power without weight. (1328/21906)

  • Truly spectacular showing. Exuberant stem aromatics, classical DRC. Balanced, sweet palate retaining acidity. Diana thought bandaid off-putting. I didn't mind! (9952/21906)

  • Nose: sweet red fruits, musk, rose petals, fresh strawberry, raspberry, rice crackers
Notes: the palate still suggests that this is quite young but I can taste the potential in it. Give it another 5-6 years it should start to show better. The beautiful nose of rose petals, raspberry and rice crackers all suggest this to be a top Burgundy. Nevertheless, I do not find this to be an extraordinary wine and I cannot say that this can live up to its reputation and hype given its a legendary year from a legendary monopole. It may be a very young still but in my view I don't see the greatness many claim from this vintage. While I cannot describe this as a disappointment because it is still very good and extremely balanced and afterall if we ignore pricing this is probably one of the top 5 best winery in the world. I'm sure this will improve with more cellaring but I doubt it will be as good as many anticipate today.

  • Bottle 2 better. The variation is unsettling though. Slightly cleaner and more lift. Brighter fruit than prior bottle. (19564/21906)

  • Bottle #1 just didn’t wow. Is it still in shell? Certainly sense and has length. Didn’t feel precise nor lifted. Much prefer 2010. (19550/21906)

(Romanée-Conti La Tâche) Aromatically closer to the style of the Richebourg than the Vivant, but right from the start it has focus and an extra and deeper register if not the anticipated spice-box. The flavour profile is riper/sweeter than the last wines - closer to the Echézeaux - but the there is a clear and distinct extra length. Currently this is at the subtle end of the traditional La Tâche continuum - it’s far from a blockbuster, but it certainly edges the Richebourg for the most complete wine so far.
