Acidic, sharp, and overly bright on the medium bodied palate, the wine was much better on the cassis, leaf, tobacco, cedar and earthy nose, than on the light, red berry palate. Father time has not been kind here.

Low shoulder but solid cork and great color. Funky at first, but this blew off and you got banana oil, dark fruit, earth, mushrooms, leather and some other stuff. Very plush and balanced in the mouth with a nice sweetness over time.

Wine was properly stored from purchase in 1970 until consumed. Shoulder level fill. Cork still in tact and has a fruity smell. Touch of brown around the edges, but still dark red in the glass. Initial bottle stink dissipates quickly, leaving a lovely bouquet of red fruit and caramel. Later on, perfume emerges along with spice and everything nice. What a lovely and delicious bottle, only 58 years old. The 1957 was a very tannic year, and many thought it would never mellow, but patience and age has turned this wine into a wonderful experience.
