Lower score, only because of an effervescence (unresolved CO2?) that was in every glass poured over 45-55 mins, as opposed to blowing off, once opened and allowed to breathe. Once settled down in the glass, the wine showed the same great characteristics that I remember from drinking a lot of these, dating back to the early-80’s vintages and for many years, thereafter. This, my first taste in several years and I enjoyed it, despite the funky effervescence.

Color is just starting to show some signs of development. On the nose, it's all about the interplay of berry fruit and oak - they are very well meshed together at this stage. Alcohol is detectable on the nose, but this is not shocking considering the labeled 14.7% ABV. Moving on, at this stage the wine is providng a really plush mouthfeel of berry cobbler. The wine seems to be in a good spot where there is still ample fruit, but the tannins have definitely softened and the oak has integrated nicely. Acid level is more than adequate, and the finish is fairly long. It's been almost 7 years since cracking a bottle of this vintage, and it's definitely changed - possibly for the better, but overall it's just very enjoyable. I'd say this is at peak, and possibly could hold a couple more years.

Red & black fruits, good body med++, delightful lingering finish. In a good spot now.

Still really good. Wild black berries with a bit of a punch.
