  • In Birmingham with Anne and Steve, wonderful dinner at their home cooked by Steve. A real treat to have this one from their cellar. Well stored bottle, decanted about an hour prior to drinking.

Deep garnet/purple color, still vibrant and no real thinning. Nose showing black and blue fruits, licorice and earth. Rich palate of blackberry, raspberry, kirsch, licorice, cocoa, herbs. Dark and blue fruits persist through the finish. Tannins starting to resolve, smooth texture Full body, long finish...

A big and expressive wine 22 years in. Rich and opulent, the "Rutherford dust" signature is prominent. Stylistically, this may not be for everyone, but well made and aging beautifully. A real star on this evening and perfect with grilled steaks and savory foods.

  • Regular dinner group (@ My place): Deep and complex bouquet with dark berries, licorice and sweet spices. On the palate dark berries like blackberries, licorice, black olives, dark chocolate, beautifully integrated oak and cedar, some graphite, beautiful acidity and round tannin. Overall a mouth full of beautiful and complex wine which is still in its young maturity stage. A Feast!

  • Thanksgiving Wimps 2022 - James Baldwin Table (La Trompette): 14.8% abv, and clearly the bruiser of the flight. By this stage my handwritten notes are getting vague and indecipherable, but I have "gorgeous, mouth big, booze big" and - that's pretty much how it was. Alongside such refined company it felt a little clumsy - i suspect if one could contemplate this for what it is, without distraction, it would be a different experience.

  • Still deep in color after 20 years. Rich, concentrated black and blue fruits in the nose and flavor. Blackberries, black raspberries, black currants, plums, with some chocolate, coffee, and hints of licorice and minerality. An elegant wine, well balanced, medium to full bodied, nice complexity, and a long smooth finish

  • Absolutely outstanding 20 year young cab from Staglin.
    20 year Anniversary as well.
Did not decant and cork had signs of seepage. Nose was impressive from the start and wine tasted smooth. Then gained balance and fine tannins shined through delicious fruit. Medium to full body, opulent, classic Staglin.
    Last one sadly.
