Continuing to improve, here, you find everything great about Cheval Blanc. Silky, sensuous, and complex, the wine kicks off with its display of flowers, cherries, mint, and blue fruit. The palate is opulent, lifted, and elegant, finishing with layers of polished, velvety fruits. There is no better deal for a Cheval Blanc with age in the market today. Drink from 2024-2050.

My second Cheval Blanc 2001.. in a span of six months. I have such generous friends, thanks for sharing this on your birthday brother LF. He had bottle breathed this for 3 hours prior to our Maillard Grill dinner.
2001 was a rather dry, but not excessively warm year. The wine is complete, fresh, complex, and fruity, with a beautiful tannic texture. 68% Merlot, 32% Cab Franc.
In this vintage, rigorous sorting resulted in only 55% of the crop going into the Grand Vin, 2001 Cheval Blanc. Grapes had a very good balance between sugar and acid. The Merlot grapes were quite small.
A major effort was made with green pruning in 2001: suckering, bud pruning, leaf thinning, and green harvesting. These operations contributed to similar yields from one plot to another and an even distribution of bunches.
Aged in 100% new oak barrels. 77,000 regular sized bottles produced.
Nose screams Bordeaux, with a bouquet of black raspberry, with pencil lead too.
The vibrant and full nose, with garnet appearance and that deep dark core, made me guess Right Bank but never one which is over 20 years old. When unveiled that it was a first growth, and that it was a 2001... it truly impressed! So youthful.
Plums, red berries, and some bitter chocolate with such a full mouthfeel, and balanced acidity on the palate. As it develops, more herbs and some greenness (Cab Franc?) show themselves too.
Beautiful medium-long length finish too, this still has life ahead of it, but is in a fantastic place now. Freshness, exuberance with enjoyable fruit, and such complexity.. a wonderful Cheval Blanc.
Silky textures, and beautiful balance. This is what a Cheval Blanc is all about!

Tasted alongside the evangile. More classic Bordeaux with full but round characteristics - smooth finish.

Classic Cheval Blanc that was round and plush with good layers and substantial palate. Very good for what it is but expected. 93+
