  • Three vintages of Clos des Papes side by side. The 1976 (86pts) has seen better days and this bottle was long past peak. Beside some shy notes of fruit and some faint tobacco and earthy notes, there is not much there. The 2007 (91pts) showed well, one of the better bottles I‘ve had as it was not completely cooked and overripe. Nice complexity and precision but still a bit too much on every level. The 2016 (93pts) was the best of the three. This bottle showed some of the intricate fresh blue and black forest fruit this vintage showed a few years ago, a nice minerality is there too. The acidity is on a good level but sadly there are some alcohol notes too. The 2016s were best right after bottling.

  • No notes taken. Fill level 3-4cm. Unknown provenance. The wine needed a a few minutes to gain intensity and tension. Medium expressive on the nose with fine tertiary aromas and some red berries. More precise and pronounced on the palate with leather, meaty notes, herbs, wet forest floor and some minerality circling around a still intact red fruit core. Overall quite balanced, with melted tannins but good tension and good acidity, slightly creamy and medium length. 92 pts but the bottle was not standing upright for an appropriate amount of days in order for the sediments to set and hence the wine was a bit cloudy. I guess with proper handling this could have been a 94+ pts wine.

  • Unfortunately this wine had a weird oxidized note to it. NR.

  • Poker night - Mostly double blind - Rayas, Masseto, Schrader, QC and etc. (Reston, Va): Perfect condition. My bottle. Initially some guess Burgundy but quickly change to CDP. Really soft and warm decadent red fruits, a hint of tobacco and garrigue. Fully integrated beautifully balance palate. Most guesses '89 or '90. Alan correctly calls the producer and misses the vintage only by a year,, i,e. he thinks '75. Bravo! Really lovely mature CDP.
