Starting to show some signs of age with a light rusty sheen to the crimson red on display. Drinking very well with aromatics of sweet black raspberry, cassis, minerals, tea and smoke. This was liquid velvet over the palate with enough acidity to provide freshness. Tannins fully subsumed. In a really good place after an hour of air. I expect to drink my remaining bottles over the next year or two to capture the wine at its best.

Purchased from and stored at Frankie Roweland’s Roanoke. Cork broke in half upon removal.
Beautiful nose of creme de cassis, sweet black currants, vanilla oak and mint. Medium-full bodied, this is so beautiful and delicious to drink right now. The tannins are just SO silky and the wine glides across the palate. This is a dead ringer for a Napa Valley Cab. Sweet, rich, balanced and chocolatey there’s a ton of sweet black currants and a chalky minerallity in the finish. This may not have been stored at 57° for its lifetime as it seems more evolved than a bottle from my cellar last year. Truly excellent, this is mature, but shows NO signs of age. Excellent! 96

Exquisite, layered, decadent, indulgent; Cassis, baked plum, raspberry, blueberry; Bitter chocolate, espresso, cedar, eucalyptus, star anise. Better with every sip. Terrific with sausages, but would be perfect with charred beef and chimichuri. Both chugable and contemplative. Could easily be dessert.

The wine was a overextracted, and had the consistency of a purée with fine sediment obscuring the wine. This was a seriously overrated wine, and I have had much better vintages than this from zapata
If you’re into Jammy, new world wines, you might like this, but there is no elegance or linearity to the flavors. It just felt so densely packed that it was hard to define.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London): blackcurrant, slight cedar, sweet spice, smidge of plum and biscuit, sweet black currant on the palate, ripe but controlled, finely tooled tannins, slight alcohol warmth on the finish. Simple, balanced, okay. I'm a little surprised by the lack of tertiary characteristics here for an 18 year old wine.
