  • Super nose - complex and layered with lots of fruit, floral notes, woodsmoke, spices. On the palate very polished and elegant, great acidity, very intense with great depth and wonderful length. Very complete and still rather youthful. 96-98(+?)

  • Decanted 4-5 hours Fruit is so fresh and vibrant. The best wines are supremely balanced, as is this Guigal. Smooth and big at the same time. Dark fruit, currant, and a touch if strawberry. Delicious now but will also age a very long time.

  • Decanted 2hrs. Dark ruby purple with more than a hint of garnet at the core. Like the 2010, I didn't really get much on the nose. Some dark berry fruits, hint of crispy bacon and something vaguely floral, presumably from the viognier. On the palate this is very pure and concentrated but just leaves a mid weight impression in the mouth. It's all about finesse rather than power and concentration which is the case in the 2010. While there are plenty of sturdy tannins lurking just below the surface, this is far more open and approachable than the 2010 at the moment. Yes of course, this will get better with more age, especially the nose which seems a bit mute at the moment, but if you have a few bottles, certainly not a crime to open one now. Good, but no fireworks and certainly not as exciting as the 2010. For now.

Note. I do always have a bias towards La Turque vs the other La La's, not least because of that fabulous label which I could happily contemplate all evening as I am consuming the contents of the bottle

  • Popped and poured. Tight for a few minutes, then opened up quickly. Nose was phenomenal - blueberries and fruit forward, but also intense and not imbalanced.... just decadent and similar to the first time we tried it (@ Alinea in Residence Oct '20). On the palate, tons of dark red and black fruit, brown sugar/honey, earthy flavors, beautiful obscured tannin. Later glasses we poured (couple hours) were even better. This is a wine that should have a long life ahead of it. (99 nose, 97 palate).
