  • This Côtes du Rhône from Vinsobres is still tasting good !! Patience is rewarded !!
Perfect cork after a decade in the bottle. Consumed over two days, fruit more predominant on the first day. Softened to display depth and complexity on day two. Deep dark ruby color with no oxidation, clarity medium. Aromas of black cherry with a hint of licorice. Flavors of cherry, fig, blackberry, and leather with a medium finish. A very balanced flavorful Rhône blend of Grenache Noir and Syrah. This is an age worthy wine but is nearing the end of life. Great fruit and a very good winemaking effort. I wish I had more bottles to revisit, sadly, this is my last bottle of this vintage. 2010 had all the right conditions to produce an exceptional vintage in the Southern Rhône. Heavy rainfall during spring, followed by a hot summer and warm September allowed for great harvest conditions. This vintage produced very balanced wines with intense fruit and great acidity.

  • Pnp. Garnet with slight pale shade. Diminished nose. Pre-vinegar notes. Sadly, this is past its drinking window and was poured down the drain. I only had one bottle so I'll never know how well it delivered in its prime. Reached for a 2010 Ch Saint Cosme Gigondas to save the dinner.

  • Still a very dark black/ruby. Decent legs.
The nose is quite tight and inky.
That tightness follows through onto the palate. It's not massively expressive, hints of black fruits and tobacco. There's still some tannin but it's not overly obtrusive. A little length.
I'm not convinced this is past it, if anything I wonder if it is still evolving. Whether it has sufficient intensity of fruit to develop positively, I'm not sure.
I only have one of these but if you have more, worth tasting one but holding some back.

  • Sadly I agree this wine is well past its peak - and I have two more bottles left in the cellar. It's garnet coloured, with fast legs and no sediment. There is almost no nose, but what does waft up is some stoniness. It tastes hot with a vinegar overtone. This was a good wine gone bad ... over time. I'm not sure what I'll do with the remaining pair but will have to figure out something soon. Cheers.

  • Really at the end of the drinking window. Still quite enjoyable with muted fruit and light tannins. No significant secondary characteristics.

(Famille Perrin / Perrin & Fils Vinsobres Les Cornuds) Very dark cherry red color; savory, pepper, charcoal nose; tasty, very tart black fruit, charcoal, pepper palate; very poised and appealing Cotes du Rhone; ready now and should go 5-7 years; medium-plus finish (50/50 Grenache and Syrah; good value at about $19)
