  • The previous tasting note bolstered my confidence to buy this bottle in an understanding the wine is not dead. I second that note with my own. The cork was difficult to extract but when one considers it's just shy of 80 years, the cork is in arguable fine condition. The wine was low to mid shoulder but also arguably high in the context of younger albeit well aged bottles with similar fills. Upon removing the cork there was some must and this only blew off slightly. The palate was nicer than the nose, strong traditional pauillac notes of graphite, cedar but also tertiary elements of earth, mushrooms and truffle. The fruit is far from gone and the wine had improved by the last sip. This is in no danger of falling apart and was one of the more enjoy wines I've had the pleasure of consuming.

  • 2 btls. bought 2 weeks prior on auction and decided to dive into this blue glassed old beauty from a time when the world was also under siege. Uncorked with minor difficulty to be immediately welcomed by medium plus intensity on the nose, heaps of classical tertiary Bdx notes, cooked & fruit, spices, forest floor. Pale tawny'ish slightly murky color, wide transparent edge against the glass. On the palate elegant & nuanced with a myriad of notes witnessing the long life in the bottle. Enormous pleasure to drink, not only because of the age. Excited I have one more bottle.
