Dominated by aromas of beetroots and other root vegetables. Personally, I’d say this was over the hill but it wasn’t undrinkable at all, and if you enjoy the root vegetables, well... Perplexing.

Perfectly satisfactory mature Bordeaux that offers restrained enjoyment rather than any hedonistic indulgence. (Basically, it's a Lanessan, but > 40 years out.) Modest nose of pencil shavings and sous-bois that reminded me more of a men's cologne (in a good way) than wine. On the palate, some notes of acidic red fruit (cranberries), earth and tobacco, with soft tannins, and balanced acidity. No acetic notes at all, so this is not yet in any real decline. A modest intellectual pleasure that nicely accompanies a winter meal, but it helps to be a fan of aged Bordeaux (from non-elite châteaux) to appreciate its charms. As a < €19 (net) auction purchase, it was a worthy buy.

Fairly complex bouquet with fruit, oak and some candy acidity. In the taste there is fruit, some oak, good acidity and tannin. A little limited complexity, but firm and fairly full bodied. There is some resemblance with Chasse Spleen 1976, which I consider to be a compliment.

For a forty year old bottle, pretty dam good, nice bright acidity and still subtle grip with the tannin. Past it’s prime but very drinkable.
