  • Five years ago I wrote "I can't believe I thought it was at peak 7 years ago." And here I am, eating my words again. This beautiful wine is still stunning in its poise, complexity, and power. Sweet and spicy aromas, sappy and extracted, with wonderful intensity and acidity. A memorable wine experience.

  • Monthly Tasting Group: Spain (Rincon 38, Mpls, MN): Small taste. Powerful, satiny, black fruit, blackberry cobbler, scorched earth, layered.

  • I've had my fair share of these over the years. This tasting was from an excellent bottle I was fortunate enough to buy at auction. Peppercorn, white flowers, and petrol on the nose. Stewed plum, cocoa, and cherry on the palate with vibrant acidity and dusty tannins. A smooth mouthfeel and clean finish. Give it some air to open up. The 14% alcohol is well integrated. A good value at $70. No hurry, but fading fruit may suggest this may be on a downward slope. Very pleasant today.

  • This bottle was perplexing. I opened it and it was totally wacky the first 20 minutes. after it had settled down a little bit there was a lot of dried fruit, cranberry mostly on the nose and palate. The fruit was so overpowering that it was hard to pick up other notes. it almost seemed like it was a bit over oxidized, but given the relative lack of bricking it just seemed a bit too advanced, I wonder if this bottle had been cooked a bit. I’ve had the same bottle two years ago and obviously you’d expect some age, but this just seems far too advanced. Just a bit too oxidized. I had a enjoyed it a lot more a few years ago. Largely disappointing.
