Dark bricky translucent ruby. Nose of dark berry, iodine, steel filings, smoky violets. Tensile, powerful layers of iron-inflected, primary raspberry, black cherry, and anise on the structured palate. Brisk acidity and firm, young tannin. Longer finish of brash red berry, iron granules, and fine soil. Excellent wine, still integrating and destined for good things.

Great range of fruit. Red fruit with nice depth and mouth-filling flavors.. Good length and structure. Very tasty now but at least a good five years to go yet. Two-hour decant was enough, but not going downhill.

Volnay baffles me sometimes. This was quite reserved for a long time. As it opened up it packed on bulk and showed unusual earthy characters as well as darker fruit that reminds me of red Meursault.

Tasted over 2 hrs -nearly semi-translucent brilliant dark red mild clearing -stony dark cherry cream faint reduction -med/med- acidity, med weight sharp slightly edgy almost green note provides a counterpoint to the ripe black cherry pinot fruit, fine med/med- tannins leave a mildly bitter note on the moderately long finish -nice aromatics, fuller and less prominent acidity than most '11s

From memory. A bit hard, with lots of acid and a fair amount of fine tannin. Leaner and more tart than I remember the previous bottle being. It followed some CA pinot, so I am sure that had something to do with it.
