A very dense, dark red Amarone! This wine is probably JUST on the approachable side, although it would have probably been better if I had the discipline to let this one sit another year. Uncorked to a slightly violet stain on the cork. The wine was decanted for about 30 minutes but probably could have sat another 2 hours easily. The initial nose is all black cherry and a dark ripe raspberry. On the palate is a dense, rather full bodied and fruit forward wine expressing black cherry, raspberry, mocha sweetness, and a slight amount of minerality that carried the wine to a nice rich satisfying middle of earth and dusty alcoholic bing cherry. The finish was actually very silky, tannin was certainly present! But it was integrated very nicely with the fruit and didn't try to dominate the finish nor the food that the wine was enjoyed with. This is a high powered wine, moreso than I thought it was going to be. But I still feel that it will improve to probably around a 91 or 92 with a year or two of age. This wine is well integrated now, and is well layered, but the tannin will probably die down a little more and the fruit expression will attenuate and meld a a little bit! Very good wine.
