First, the color is beautiful with its copper toned salmon hues. The nose has slight apple and yeasty aromas with big ripe strawberries. Once on the tongue it dances with a lithe zesty bounce, plenty of bubbles and a decent mousse. Medium bodied, the taste is currant, raspberry and a touch of cinnamon. Measured by a touch of vanilla and pastries. Just the slightest sweetness as it warms up - suggesting to keep it cool - and a nice finish. A great QPR and will assuage most palates, the perfect party sipper and a nice compliment to Asian spices or light cream sauces. My "go-to" for a solid and inspired rose.
This iteration of Schramsberg's non-vintage Mirabelle Brut Rosé is from a lot that was released 12/25/2014 (91% of the blend from the 2011 vintage, 9% from aged reserve lots). Comprised of 64% Pinot Noir and 36% Chardonnay, it is medium salmon in color and sports an active tiny bead. Bright strawberry, raspberry, nutmeg and tangerine aromas are followed by similar flavors on a vibrant, light-bodied palate without noticeable alcohol (12.8%). The middle has plenty of verve and the finish is medium in length. This well-priced "pink" sparkler will have many fans, especially during the holiday seasons of 2015 and 2016. Drink now-2016.
