Juicy and expressive. Picked this up after retailer quoted a 93 WA. Not cheap at $26 for an Argentinian Malbec, but thought I would give it a shot. Once home, I double checked and saw the retailer was naughty, highlighting Jay Miller's 93 rating, which was actually for the 2008 vintage.
What struck me about this wine was the expressive dark fruit profile that exploded in the mouth. Really nice showing an uncommon combination. Blackcurrant came to mind.
That said, this did not show the same spicy/acidic backend that I get with the Punto Final Malbec Reserve (2010 appears to be the current release, but the 2008 is still available) that is also delicious and sells for around $16. Still, this Tikal is one of the few Malbecs I have tasted that I would buy again.
