First of two bottles. I didn't intend to open it today but found a leaking bottle; low shoulder fill. Cork in terrible condition, soaked, almost loose inside the neck. Impressive hue and very little browning considering the age of this wine and the relatively modest reputation of this vintage. Intense aromatics. The aromas are always the most interesting part of these old wines: eau-de-vie (prune), earthy, cigarbox, baking spices; just beautiful...no soy aroma The palate was more substantial than expected with a very nice texture, obviously dissolved tannins but the wine was not falling apart. One of these long asymptotic curves lasting forever...

From an almost perfect bottle with top shoulder fill but completely destroyed label. Cork came out intact. Interesting faint scent, almost St Julien style, old dusty cabinet, strawberry, black tea, dried plum, resinous opium notes. On the palate well balanced with pronounced acidity, smooth but unexciting. Good but too old!

An old bottle (with a low fill) -you could see by the way the bottle leaned to one side that it was made in a different era. The cork was shriveled and only the capsule was keeping the ambient world out. The wine? It was well past it, but the bouquet was lovely and redolent of great, old earth. The brown-tinted liquid seemed like it might make a nice vinaigrette. Not expecting much from an old bottle from this year (and not getting much more than smells).
