Had at Sanders and whilst this must have been my 6th or 7th bottle of this now, this was unusually very different from the others. You would never have picked it as being 15 years old. Deep colour, very fruit driven, almost a touch modern (compared to the traditional style it normally presents). Enjoyed this but surprised at how different it was.

NOSE: impulsive aroma of black cherry, boysenberry, chocolate, and pencil shavings mark it true to origin and age. It equilibrates in due haste, leaving a grounded face of salt, roots, porcini, and frosty dried herbs. MOUTH: evenly textured; weighted grip exemplifies dry comfort. This checks boxes: bouquet, substance, development; square, classic pleasure. TIME: it gets a lot more interesting as the hours tick by—stiffly contained, earthy, libidinal obsession aimed at captive destructions of berry bushels, black tea, and pipe tobacco. Finishes cool and sure (stone, mint.)

Well softened and drinking well. Still has some density. A bit of tannin and nice acidity with graphite and chocolate notes. Straightforward with a lot of Bordeaux character without being amazing. Just a very good dinner wine.

Needs air, maybe two hours (I gave it less). Loads of wonderful fruit, tannins evident but not overwhelming. Very enjoyable now but should improve.
