Popped and poured, not looking like a 20 year old wine, good color and not much bricking. This was better than I expected based on previous comments and the reputation of the vintage. I suspect the alcohol was higher than the 13% on the label, but the wine was in balance, textured, soft, with adequate fruit and Volnay character. While it lacked the complexity of great Clos des Chenes, it was memorable and delicious.

Part of a quartet of CdC (00, 03, 04, 07) served single blind. When it was revealed to be the 03, almost everyone at the table was stunned, as it showed no heat or over-ripeness, in fact it was balanced and composed. I guessed this to be the 2007, as it showed younger than the others, but still quite open. The problem with the wine, in my view, is that it just wasn't expressive or detailed in aroma or flavor, it was uninspiring. Nothing wrong with it, and I imagine that one could go down the "compared with other 2003's" road...But in the end the wine isn't a great CdC or a great anything, it's decent wine, nothing more. If I had more I'd sell it, pronto.

I concur with the other notes, this is good, but just good. A bit underwhelming. Drink now.
