Bought and drunk in Haro from a dusty old wine shop, and we should have known better. They had a lot of bottles of this, and all looked pretty suspect. This bottle was classic decrepit, wheezing at death's door. I guess we'll call this an educational experience.

Drinking really nicely. One of my favorite experiences with this wine. It comes across as quite elegant in a line up of bigger new world wines. Red fruits and more secondary leather notes. The wine is very light and easy. Really tasty.

Opened and decanted for sediment and rebottled. Really drinking nicely. Higher acid than the Italian wines we had alongside. Almost all secondary which was different as well. Leathery and maybe some coffee and almost a touch of the tomato paste. Glad we have more of these. Was a bonus bottle and it showed better than our main one I thought.

Dim Sum Club at Yan (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): This started out a bit slow, showing a bit tight, but it opened up really nicely in the glass. After an hour, it was really quite the blushing beauty in the glass, with a whole perfumed panoply of geraniums, cherries and preserved strawberries on the nose, along with lifted smells of earth, spice and cigarette smoke, and then that telltale layer of coconutty American oak. The palate was fresh and lively, with a spine of bright acidity and just the remnant of powdery tannins wrapped around vibrant flavours of red cherries and berries, a bit of haw flakes, all trailing away into a warmly spiced finish that lingered very nicely on the back-palate. The palate felt a little lighter and less compelling than the nose would lead one to guess, showing its Crianza background, but it was really enjoyable nonetheless. Good stuff, drinking nicely now.

Very much soil defined. Good dry depth here.
