What a nose! Honey, flowers, lychee, violet and mango just jump into your nose. Beautiful golden color. Lovely and languorous on the palate, lots of botyris, tastes like all of the above with the particular impression of crushed flowers soaked in honey. 30 to 45 second finish. Maybe compared to other sweet wines it doesn't have the extra dimension that an Yquem has on the best days, but then again it also costs less than a quarter of a good Yquem. A great quality/price and great on an absolute level as well.

Wine Dinner with Jean-Frederic Hugel (Meritage, St. Paul): Deep golden-amber color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30+ minutes. This was the Selection de Grains R bottling at 103 gm RS. Aromatic nose with lychee, bright florals, honeysuckle, apricot, some pear, quince, spice, orange marmalade. The palate is delightful with good viscosity, deep fruit layers of apricot and orange preserves, tangy, lifted. Clean and energetic with impeccable balance, and a very long botrytis filled finish. 93+pts.

An amazing bouquet of honey, caramel, honeysuckle, lilacs and lychee, all of which is reflected on the extremely complex palate, plus a little peach and sweet pear. It is medium-bodied with medium levels of acidity, but there is plenty there to keep it going for a long while yet. A splendid wine with a luscious mouthfeel which balances power with elegance and refinement, and is one that that I will revisit in a few years.

Sadly very maderiaized and just no good. Worth the $15 flier from the ghetto liquor store in Peoria IL just for the chance.
