  • Blindly watching The Masters (Chez S1): Tasted just after 2010 Janasse Chaupin and just before 2010 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Réservée. Decanted for two and a half hours. Of the seven wines on the tasting this was the favorite of no one and the least favorite most tasters (my least favorite). Right now this wine is a hot, bitter, dark-fruited, oaky mess. The fruit is muted; I get very little sense of place. Maybe it will come around at some point. I drank 2009 at the domaine in 2011 and absolutely loved it. I sure hope that time heals these wounds.

  • This remains one of my benchmarks for a Châteauneuf-du-Pape and it continues to floor me. It is impressively dark in color; in fact, black and purple at the core. The nose is a tad tighter than I remember, though it retains much of the freshness and complexity of its youth. Full-bodied and thick in the mouth, the flavors of plums, red fruits, blood, and Provençal herbs fan out across the palate and persist for nearly a minute. The acidity is perfectly balanced so there is nothing grotesque or over extracted about this wine. Nice ripe tannins provide cut and grip. A masterpiece that seems to be a bit closed at the moment. And though it needs a little time to rest, it remains an impressively gorgeous wine.

  • Blasts off with a massive, multi-layered dose of fat layers with juicy, sexy fruits. The wine is about silk, ripeness and peppery spices. Tthis coats your mouth while delivering freshness and complexity that makes you think and drink. If you love Chateauneuf du Pape, you need to try a bottle. In the years to come, this could earn a higher score.

  • Obviously not to my taste, as I'm completely contrary to the notes here as well as others at the tasting....

Sweet red fruit on the nose, lots of heat. I felt this was a bit bretty as well. Total mess of a wine dominated by alcohol and muddled overripe, sweet flavors.

  • Wow, un vin qui frôle la perfection. Tout y est: structure, concentration, fraîcheur, longueur... L'équilibre d'un grand vin dans un grand millésime.
