Eleven years ago, this was very impressive but still a bit raw. Now perfectly mature, with a rich, saturated colour; a rich, deep nose of blackcurrants, cedar and spices (cinnamon, cloves) with a lovely, ripe sweetness; on the palate rich, ripe, brooding, fleshy, shapely, harmonious acidity, tannins in check, lovely extract, dried cherries, red meat; long. Now - 2005.
Brown edge. In the bouquet coffee, not so pleasant pig stable and peas. Tertiary taste as well with a lot of acidity and tannin. Tannin of the kind that will never soften. Still a firm wine, but not really beautiful. In my mind is that this wine was much more beautiful about 10 years ago, when the fruit could handle the tannin. So if ever I find my older notes, I will publish them here as well. I score the wine anyway. (This was probably 8-10 points higher in the past.)
