  • Probably a 92 but an extra point for being a 25 year old chardonnay that's held together so well. The wine is thicker with an apricot colour and the palate is a bit one dimensional but still it all speaks to the quality. No acidity left

  • Howard's note nails it.

My bottle showed a beautifully preserved cork. My aromatic and tasting experience mirrors Howards. Terrific acidity. We finished 2/3 of the bottle, corked it and placed into fridge.

2 days later, it had blossomed further. Great flinty aromas and some mild matchstick on the palate. The acidity was just starting to fade. A bit rounder.

Fantastic wine. One of my favorite for 2016. The 2 day data point makes me think this has even more time remaining and I will not hesitate to decant the next bottle (after a quick sip) if consumed within the next 3 years.

  • Dinner with Jeffrey: Served blind. Deep gold colour, like Rauno’s other Chardonnay. Under cork (Rauno said it was mashed and had to be pushed into the bottle). A bouquet of honey, grapefruit, spices and a little pineapple. Its development was expressed as a slightly Brie-like, oxidised note. On palate, superb, the best of the three Chardonnays. I need regular reminders as to the quality of mature LEAS Chardonnays. Honey combed and blanched almond flavoured, with citric and orchard fruit elements. Nice bright acidity, not however as racy as the Carrillon. I thought the LEAS was a white Burgundy although, with hindsight, the acid profile and the quite opulent fruit, should have told me it was from the New World. This LEAS should outlive the Carrillon (if your cork holds out). Drink or hold (depending on how developed you like your Chardonnays).

  • 'Nothing but Chardonnay' dinner with Peter Rosback: Pop and pour. Badly corked.

  • Complete surprise given it's apparent colour in the glass - not brown but obvious age. The nose also showed a lot of age. The palate however was total Burgundian -lovely intergrated fruit, minerality, and great length. Just delicious.
