Much perfumed fruit jumping out of the glass, filling the room loudly. Close inspection gives away spices and minerality. For me, the wine retains a clear precision behind the voluptuousness. Taste is dark, intense and very smooth. With my limited experience I get the feeling that this will remain approachable for a quite long time.

Another 2003 that quickly segues from a fruit bomb with the vintage style tattooed all over it to a well-balanced, classic Burgundy. Extremely primary scents of crushed berries dominate at first, and the wine is full with a thick, doughy texture. Then it civilizes itself, retaining its sap and revealing intense herbs and spices which at first surface only on the back end but soon take over the foreground flavors -- including some bold flavor spikes from various green herbs, with thyme in particularly coming to mind. The greenness might turn some people off, but this is still incredibly interesting to me and a well-executed wine with good balance, good texture, and something new around every corner.

Mid-brick; minty, mineral, earth; mid-body; balanced; good tannins; mid-fruit to rich; good rich finish.
