This is a bit different from other Barberas I have tried. It is not as fruity as most but it has a darker, drier quality to it. More pronounced oak with leather and tobacco notes. It is a very nicely rounded wine with medium finish that matches the initial taste. I had it with marieke gouda cheese, hummus and love beets and then later with a salad with white balsamic and olive oil dressing It was really good with the chocolate I had for dessert also. I got it on sale at Surdyks for 14.99. Well worth it!

Tasted in wine bar in Cincy. Med ruby at core, barely fading to rim. Nose shows black cherry fruit, nice rocky minerality, a hint of kirsch and tea. Elegant, refined. Palate reveals a dry wine, med in body and alcohol, with med intensity flavors of blackberry, leather, rocks, and slight eucalyptus (in a very nice way). The acidity is refreshing med intensity, keeping this Barbera lively but not overdone in any way. Med length finish repeats notes from the palate. This is a very good quality Barbera, done in a style I appreciate, a bit backward and more feminine fruit, but with lush mouthfeel and great acidity. Very nice with food. Not a buy for me at $36/btl in the wine bar, but great if online at $15. Search it out.

Tea-like on the nose, which is deceiving on the mouth. Spicier than expected. Dig it as a restaurant purchase.

First bottle was not very good- 78 at best. Second bottle was much improved. More typical of the excellent 2009 vintage.
