  • Drinking nicely. Likely at its peak. Very pleasant soft red fruit, but a little thinner than I expected.

  • Absolutely rocking and punching well above its weight at the moment.

  • Although there is nothing wrong with this, it did not represent the complexity and depth of a typical St. Estephe. Brilliant garnet color. Some light fruits on the palate. A bit thin in the mouth. Rather dry and a bit heavy on the tannins. Disappointing given the otherwise outstanding vintage.

  • No faults, just not up to snuff. Very "fall fair"; hay bales and cotton candy. I also found it a bit sweaty/animal. Green pepper, white tobacco, and cooked fruit- jam... to its credit, quite varietally typical. In the mouth it really fell apart, the wine was thin, tannins dry... mostly vegetal on the palate. Must agree with some of the other recent posts... "weak in the knees". No faults, but terrible value.

  • Pfft. A great vintage, a great location - this should have been so much better but it was underwhelming to the point that I threw most of it down the sink. Not because it was undrinkable but it was just so forgettable that I figured I could spend the next hour of my life drinking this and forgetting it, or I could drink something else. Soft, round, soapy fruit. Little structure to speak of, which is surprising for a 2000 - this needs some tannins and structure but instead there is just flabby nothingness. A shame because previous vintages have been excellent.

(Chateau Lilian Ladouys (St Estèphe)) A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. There are new owners at Lilian Ladouys these days, but this wine predates their involvement. This is a great vintage though so hopes should be high. Dark, rather high-toned but certainly fresh on the nose. Notes of crunchy autumn leaves, mature and delicate, something of a surprise given the vintage. Supple on entry, then rather dry and reserved through the middle. Structured, but with broad and soft edges. Really remarkably light and stony. Disappointing.
