Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (J&J's): Blind. A big wine, even now, with aromas of black fruit, molasses, barbecue sauce, blueberry, cherry pie and bacon. Lush, ripe black fruit and pepper on the palate, with a lingering finish. Easy to pick out as the HS syrah in this flight.
This had been double decanted three hours before the flight was poured. Drinking well, with plenty of life ahead.

Based on my previous TN of 9/12/20 this bottle was decanted for 20+ minutes, and the resulting wine profile was very similar to that previous bottle, but a bit more integrated. Again, I do think this wine can hold for another year or two but give it air up front.

Decanted for 15 minutes to allow some mustiness to blow off and for the components to awaken. There is no doubt that this is a Syrah based wine (65% Syrah + 35% Grenache) as the nose is all dark red fruits, smoked meat, and a touch of violets. All of these follow on to the medium bodied palate along with acidity that is juicy and balancing, and a touch of tannins. I don't think this wine will improve, but it can hold for another year or two before declining. Enjoy soon, but give it air.

Plenty of tannins, but low on flavor. Not up to usual Herman standards.
