  • Cloudy appearance. Still drinking well. For this bottle, it’s at last stage. Will not improve anymore. Drink up. Did not decant. Notes of charr wood, toast, red fruits and black fruits. Medium acidity and medium- tannin.

  • Charming bouquet with some fruit, a bit thin in the midtaste; overall showing nicely in a modest way.

  • The cork was sitting 2mm below the level of the bottle and extracted easily with a Durand. High quality dense cork with overall wine penetration of 3-4mm except some runs to ¾ of the length. There was plenty of fine-grained sediment. Decanted 30 minutes before serving but left the lid on the decanter. Colour was good and the nose was promising.
Had low expectations due to the poor reputation of the vintage and the cellar-tracker suggested drinking window expiring in 2004. However, this was the type of wine that could make anyone fall in love (again) with St.Julien. Didn’t make detailed notes but well-balanced black fruit, cedar with a med+ finish.
The wine is drinking wonderfully and could last longer. Shame I only had the one.

  • Enjoyed this again. Decanted for sediment and poured immediately. Lively nose of tobacco and bitter chocolate. Fully resolved. Good length. Held on for the 2 hour window. Nice

  • Attractive aged bouquet of wet tobacco leaves with minty notes. Expressive and enjoyable. Palate still holds some fruit and finishes well. Mushrooms and good length. Enjoyable
