This wine has it all. Big red and purple fruit but not overbearing, very discreet showing of loam, mushroom. Very smooth tannins for an NSG. Delicious, evaporates on the mouth. Ready to roll but in no hurry I think.
I'd heard that many 99's are still pretty shut down but figured we'd give this a chance... Still fairly primary on the nose and not really showing much secondary characteristics, there is a good amount of cherry, some musky spice, hint of soil tones and occasionally a little whiff of anise. The palate is full of T&A, good weight and mouthfeel with bright fruit and a tannic finish that reverberates with flavor for a good while. Very good, but clearly too early on this one. Not much has changed today either from the half glass left in the bottle overnight.
Although a formal note was not recorded, it can be said that this wine is well-structured and still filled with fruit. Another 3-5 years will be beneficial, but the wine is quite pleasant now. Drink 1/12-12/17.
Tasted in tasting bar at Vintage Wines, Ltd. Bright disc, with medium ruby robe and red rim. This wine needed at least 45 minutes of breathing in the glass to show anything other than mustiness. After the breathing, however, it showed a clean nose, with moderately intense cherry, vanilla and exotic spices. Good acid/tannin balance, medium bodied, with flavors similar to nose. Long, smooth finish. Is nice now but will definitely improve with 2-3 years of bottle ageing.
