Engaging nose of freshly tilled soil, decaying leaves, mineral and some Morey blue fruits. It is driven by its breezy acid spine and has all sorts of complex savoury flavours. It sweetens up in the glass and has terrific poise and balance. There's great persistence to the palate and one is left with a wonderful mouth aroma once the wine is swallowed.
Deep red with a bit of rust around the rim. Nose is all earth, dry currants and a hint of cedar. First notes of prune, currant, some raspberry and blackberry. Blueberry towards the end with a finish of some earth and wet stones. A short finish. Tannins have blended and softened. Glad we drank this when we did -- won't improve from here. Not necessarily on the downslope but it doesn't have enough to age more. Nose is fabulous, the wine doesn't fully fulfill the promise of the nose.
Curiously, this is deeper in color than the Engel Clos Vougeot, but there is much less to it. Faded florality and some dead leaf and licorice on the nose. Gentle and lacking the focus and grip of the other wine. Comes across as very diffuse (not usually the problem with this vintage) and could use more fruit and less greenness at this point. Drink up. This will not make the highlight reels.
NM. Logo que aberto ainda mostrou alguma fruta, notas terrosas e de trufas, com aromas bem agradáveis. Mas bastaram cinco minutos no copo e o vinho lamentavelmente desapareceu. Sobraram apenas alguns taninos e a acidez. Mais um tiro certeiro do Parker. R.
