  Very youthful. Dark purple with little bricking at the edges. In the nose lots of pepper, some bacon and smoke. In a perfect drinking window right now. Big positive surprise. Delicious.

  There is some good fruit trying to escape the hard metallic tang at the bck of this wine. Although it is only there if you take large mouthfuls. Very disappointing after having a 1995 Cotes du Rhone three weeks ago that was extraordinarily good. This is lacking on the front and the back, and if it hadn't been for my colleagues who are thirsty I may have tipped it down the sink.
