Bottle opened 3-4hrs before. Greatly balanced. acidity is relatively high. Little bit oaky. Power is good but not lasting long enough (maybe vintage character).

1 hr decant. Using Sommelier stems significantly elevated the experience. While barnyard dominates the nose, there's also lots of clay, earth, leather and old wooden cask. Incredibly smooth, balanced, and well integrated, there's nothing that screams out at you as a particularly overpowering flavor.
As smooth as this is, it takes some time and a few sips before you realize just how much tannin and structure still remains. While the tannins seem fully resolved, As you spend more time with the wine, you can see from its weight back palate that there's still a lot of life remaining. No rush and a special treat, thanks Brian!

More ready than the Latour, this was elegant, silky, more resolving tannins, lightly perfumed, not as big as you might think for a '03. Very nice indeed but I preferred the Latour. EWG retrospective tasting dinner at Conrad's

From 375. Tasted, then decanted just before dinner. Complex, elegant nose of raspberries and blackberries, with maybe a hint of leather. Palate not quite as great, still showing a slight tannic bite.
Excellent wine in early drinking window with a long way to go.

**A creamy nose floats off the top of this, filled with raspberry and earth. The wine has a sensational bouquet and for me, the evolution is advanced for a big wine like the big daddy Rothschild. Dont confuse that with freshness, because the wine is totally fresh, deep and saturated, with a beautiful garnet evolution. Liquid pencil dominated the senses as the wine warmed and woke up, followed with more stealthy raspberry and gentle earthy notes intermingled with violets. Really soft and elegant and definitely walking in its own bright light at 20 years old. The finish was not as long as I can remember or expect from a wine like this, so a reduction in score...Otherwise, a lovely elegant Lafite. Drink or hold

(Château Lafite Rothschild) Big mocha, espresso, tobacco nose; tasty, tart black fruit, roasted plum, espresso; long finish. Fun to drink, but more like a 2000 Pavie than a classic Lafite for me.
