Nuts, mineral and rancio nose. On the palate rather sweet, full bodied, showing nice fruit, nutty flavors, typical rancio and mineral notes.Very good balancing acidity.Overall, a very good dessert wine.I do prefer more drier madeiras but this was a pleasant surprise.

A very nutty nose, with a hint of vanilla and caramel. On the palate, the attack is all caramel then it transitions on the mid-palate to nuts and a tad of green wood (like chewing on a fresh branch) and it finishes on vanilla cream. A very interesting drink, got me interested in Madeira.

Medium gold, amber touch; neutral, grapy, caramel, little definition, low acidity, pleasant, reasonable length; lacks precision. I prefer the real thing.

Madeira: ancient & modern (LIWSF, London): This has 100g/l residual sugar and is made from the tinta negra mole grape, which Charles Metcalfe characterised as making a “beginner’s Madeira.” It has a very savoury nose with a hint of polished old oak furniture. Good easy palate. A nice wine, but a bit overshadowed by some of its compatriots today.
