Great wine, still alive. Deep red. Great blackberry fruit. Leather, hedge row. Although a little lean, as expected in a wine of this age there is still really good fruit coverage. Long and complex. Drinking well now and has years in front of it.

1972 Bordeaux horizontal tasting: Considerable more concentrated than the La Mission preceding it this still has some dark fruit joining the sous bois. Not very clean (bottle?) though

Dark and earthy aromas with coke, minerals and something green and medicinal. Quite skinny and light weighted on the palate, but the concentration and persistence is there. Impressive for this vintage.

Second time drinking the 72 Haut Brion. Pnp on a Sunday evening as I was expecting this bottle with a very low fill (around 6-7cm) from an OWC to go down the drain, but then the wine looked very clean and clear in the glass, with a transparent garnet core and and only slight browning to the rim. On the nose initially slightly off with sharp acidic notes but with a bit of air, the wine comes together and is drinkable. Very herbaceous, with plenty of sous bois and medicinal notes too. Still some remaining fruit though. I would think that bottles in better condition could be very decent, and likely better than my recent 72 La Mission (which had a bottom neck fill but seemed quite tired with what in German is called Todessuesse). NR

Really surprised by this bottle. Incredible dark colour and rich nose with a deep palate. I really did not think this could be a 72
