Way too much oak. Dirty wood and vanilla smell get in all the way. This is unfortunate because the juice is good on the palate otherwise with lots of fruit and matured tannin in the background.

Last of a half case. Cork in good condition. Medium ruby in the glass with no bricking. Ballpoint ink, pencil lead, oak and a tiny sliver of black currant on the nose. Very fruit poor on the palate with just a tiny beam of black currant showing. Very dry. Some tannins remain. These ought to be consumed very soon.

En magnum. A vibrant nose of ripe blackcurrant, charred oak and graphite. Perhaps surprisingly not hugely developed but savory and charming. On the palate richly fruited with quite formidable structure. Not a ton of complexity on the palate and the fruit expression is not very bright. The flavor profile has a very generic feel to it and seems perhaps somewhat manufactured.

Still delicious. Cherry, berry, earth and tar. Great with the herbal, rack of lamb.
