Decanted and tasted after 20 min aeration. Garnet with brick edge,as it opened there were faint spice/pipe smoke notes, later vegetal nose developed, metallic note on the palate, at 1 hr it had put on weight, showed dried red cherry flavor. Another hr, the wine continued to open up smooth, soft palate red fruits and subtle spices- no rough sensations at all. I adjusted my score upward. End result is I was happy to watch it open up over a 2-3 hr period. First impressions not always the best, lesson learned.

Klar, dyp, mørk rød med svak bruning i kanten. Skogbunn, lær, røde bær, noe blyantspiss, roseblader og høstløv på nese. Mild sødme. Bløt, saftig frukt med overraskende god vitalitet og friskhet. Fin dybde. Frisk, saftig syre. Nedslipte, bløte tanniner. Fin lengde.

Popped and poured. Initial big tobacco and earthy tertiary notes in the nose. Some fruit initially, but this quickly evaporated and the wine seemed to dry out and was a bit over the hill...as I would expect, given the pedigree and age. An initial surprise however.

Mature and with a nice body. Hint of caramel and still bvery enjoyable Drank at the chateau and it is from the private cellar so immaculately kept. A great experience. Thank you Gildine and Guillaume

(Château Lanessan) Mature, bell pepper and camphor nose; nice, mature leather palate with a hint of smoke; medium finish (poured blind and we guessed mid-80s Pauillac, so the age on this bottle was a surprise)
