  • A wonderful dry Spanish wine from another era. I was worried the wine would be way past its prime and not very interesting to drink, but my gamble paid off big time. The color and the nose is reminding me of old mahogany wood, asian spices and incense...I feel I'm revisiting St-Peter's Cathedral in the Vatican. The palate as well is from another era and you can easily tell that this wine was around 12-12.5% alcohol. Very easy to drink, with no signs or taste of being too old. Even though it won't improve from here, I'm sure the wine would tolerate another 5-7 years in the cellar...but again, why wait? Don't be afraid to decant for 30 minutes - it will benefit from it. A real privilege to taste such a wine.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately.

Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Only throwing a little bit of sediment that was easy decanted off. Absolutely stunning nose of tobacco, black berries, black cherries, flowers, a hint of leather, a bit of melted black licorice and on and on. Palate was a bit tight and singular at first but kept opening up over the next two hours to finally become very expressive of black berries, black cherries, a hint of black raspberries and a dash of plum on the medium to long finish. Medium to bright acidity, integrated tannins, full bodied. Drink or hold. If opening now decant for sediment about 30 minutes to an hour before serving to get the best showing out of this lovely wine.
