Community Tasting Notes (192) Avg Score: 92.5 points

  • '05 pegau cuvée reservee: Really delicious, silky smooth on the palate, barnyard, garrique, minerality - 94 pts

'05 janasse chaupin: riper, sweeter fruit, licorice, less secondaries, a little heat on the finish. - 94 pts

    Both great, just different styles.

  • Medium red, brown rim; spices, barn, caramel, somewhat lean nose; sweet, slightly smoked/burned, slightly acidic while also rounded with mild tannins; well tasting, quite good

  • Deep reddish-violet garnet in color almost opaque with some minor clearing at the edges. Full, forward, fragrant & attractive nose of complex, rich, ripe fruits aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & boysenberries with classic garrigue notes, earthy, some licorice, coffee, floral notes, dried herb notes of sage, thyme & mint, dusty, leather, tar, minerals & some cedar. Medium-full to full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced, complex, smooth textured & well integrated, lush, rich, ripe dark brambly fruit flavors of sweet cherries, blackberries & tart mulberries with spices, herbs, anise, coffee, tar, earthy & minerals. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing, but has the potential to continue further development with additional aging.

  • @Fred_Lund: Pegau 2005. It's certainly not Rayas. A bit boring to be honest. Label says 14%, but has to be more. Gets you drunk.

(Domaine de Pegau Châteauneauf-du-Pape, Rhône) Aromas of dark fruits—plum, black cherry, fig—and hints of earthiness. This bold wine bridges the gap between the older, classic styles of the region and the more modern, “cleaned-up” versions. It’s intensely flavored and full-bodied, with layers of complexity and the structure to age beautifully for many years to come.
