  Quite deep and dark cherry red color with moderate translucency. The nose feels quite ripe and somewhat sweet-toned, but also slightly more restrained than vintages 2001-2003. The bouquet shows lovely and moderately developed aromas of juicy plummy fruits, ripe red cherries, some perfumed floral tones, a little bit of jammy dark berries and a mineral hint of dusty volcanic soil. The wine is lively, pure and vibrant on the palate with medium body and fresh flavors of slightly bitter sour cherries, ripe red berries, some crunchy redcurrants, a little bit of wizened dark plummy fruit, a hint of perfumed floral character and a touch of herbal spice. The wine shows a little bit of tannic grip, but overall the tannins are pretty light and contribute more to the texture; the structure relies more on the high acidity. The finish is bright, lively and quite youthful with gentle tannic grip and fresh and intense flavors of ripe red cherries, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of crunchy and tart cranberries, hints of smoky minerality and a touch of developed dried fruit character.
  
  A bright, balanced and enjoyably crunchy Sicilian red that carries its age with effortless grace. Stylistically the wine feels noticeably more youthful than the vintages 2001 and 2003, being more comparable to the wonderful 2002 vintage. There are some developed tones here, but overall the wine feels still quite youthful at the age of almost 12 years. Offering lots of enjoyment already, but I can imagine the wine will continue to develop for many more years. Expect the score go up with age. Recommended.

  Cork was almost soaked through. Decanted off the sediment in the morning then recorked and opened at night. This wine felt just in the right place right now, lots of lovely fruit, acidity and a little development, absolutely delicious.

  Three years later, the profile here has changed little, with expressive sweetness sexing up a core of gravelly earth. Impressive in the way it builds power in the mouth, but the tannins are moving in the right direction with age. I think this will please for the entire extent of what should be a long cellar life.
